{"id":1671,"date":"2013-04-22T06:30:30","date_gmt":"2013-04-22T10:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.changinglanes.biz\/?p=1671"},"modified":"2015-11-15T21:50:48","modified_gmt":"2015-11-16T02:50:48","slug":"chess-or-checkers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.changinglanes.biz\/index.php\/2013\/04\/22\/chess-or-checkers\/","title":{"rendered":"Games Leaders Play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Are you playing checkers or chess with your staff?\u00a0 If you are playing checkers, you see each and every interaction with your employees as having a few simple moves \u2013 single slides or jumps \u2013 and each has the same \u201cskill set\u201d.\u00a0 But in chess, part of the strategy is learning how the individual pieces move and interact \u2013 a lot more like the average employee.\u00a0 Knowing what makes employees \u201ctick\u201d and also how they can help move the company forward is critical to keeping your company ahead of the competition.\u00a0 As leaders, we want to play games that make sense and grow profits, people and value.\u00a0 The games leaders play will\u00a0 determine much of what a company becomes. What games are you as a leader playing?<\/p>\n<p>Being a Leader requires sharing a vision of the future with those who will help.\u00a0 Both checkers and chess require end with a winner but the process there is where leadership needs a vision to get to the win.\u00a0 A great vision will do the basics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grab attention<\/li>\n<li>Focus energy<\/li>\n<li>Arouse passion<\/li>\n<li>Transform purpose into action<\/li>\n<li>Compel<\/li>\n<li>Commit people to action<\/li>\n<li>Is the rallying point, and<\/li>\n<li>It is short, to the point, memorable, repeatable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To best explain how important a vision is, let me take you to a small business that builds very tiny computer chips.
