{"id":2170,"date":"2013-09-09T09:34:19","date_gmt":"2013-09-09T13:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.changinglanes.biz\/?p=2170"},"modified":"2016-05-02T20:41:40","modified_gmt":"2016-05-03T00:41:40","slug":"power-naps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.changinglanes.biz\/index.php\/2013\/09\/09\/power-naps\/","title":{"rendered":"Power Naps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>I admit it!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been taking power naps since I was in college.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/em>A power nap in my world is fifteen minutes or less; I do set an alarm although I usually awake before\u00a0the time I set.\u00a0 The power of napping has been known by many leaders including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artofmanliness.com\/2011\/03\/14\/the-napping-habits-of-8-famous-men\/\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas Edison, John F. Kennedy, Stonewall Jackson, Ronald Reagan, Salvador Dali <\/a>and my Dad!\u00a0 My dad used naps on the couch as his way to change from being the principal to being the husband\/father\/yardman\u00a0when he came home.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Traveling alone, I learned that pulling over at a busy rest stop and grabbing a quick nap made me a much sharper driver.\u00a0 Over time, I discovered that napping was also like rebooting a computer &#8211; it helped clear out the junk that was in the recycle bin of my mind.\u00a0 Other tips for napping at work:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Putting your head down on a glass table top isn&#8217;t pretty &#8211; think drool and flat face.<\/li>\n<li>If you haven&#8217;t warned your staff about your habit, then remarks that could work are: &#8220;I was meditating&#8221;, &#8220;I was contemplating a problem&#8221;, &#8220;The office light was bothering my eyes.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Snoring usually doesn&#8217;t wake you up, but others do hear it.<\/li>\n<li>Turning on a Podcast or Webinar for background noise &#8211; others will think you really are working.<\/li>\n<li>Asking &#8220;where the corporate nap room is?&#8221; on a job interview is probably not a good idea.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All kidding aside, science has proven that naps do work, refresh our spirit and minds, increase productivity and adjust our attitude.\u00a0 Check out <a href=\"http:\/\/longevity.about.com\/od\/sleep\/a\/napping_tips.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Tips for Great Naps <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/balance\/features\/the-secret-and-surprising-power-of-naps\" target=\"_blank\">Power Naps<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNature has not intended mankind to work from eight in the morning until midnight without that refreshment of blessed oblivion which, even if it only lasts twenty minutes, is sufficient to renew all the vital forces.\u201d\u00a0 &#8211; Sir Winston Churchill<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>May the Nap be with you!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I admit it!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been taking power naps since I was in college.\u00a0 A power nap in my world is fifteen minutes or less; I do set an alarm although I usually awake before\u00a0the time I set.\u00a0 The power of napping has been known by many leaders including Thomas Edison, John F.
