In today\u2019s economy many businesses are retraining their staff members instead of finding new talent.\u00a0 Having to find a new staff member and take the time and manpower to train can be more expensive than simply retraining.\u00a0 So when do you know when it\u2019s time to embrace or fire?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Embrace and Train Staff Who:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understand that knowledge is power.<\/li>\n<li>Ask for evaluations or advice on their performance.<\/li>\n<li>Take responsibility for their mistakes.<\/li>\n<li>Show that they can take action to improve performance.<\/li>\n<li>Can be easily trained by a mentor, boss, or coach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Fire Staff Who:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put the blame anywhere but on themselves.<\/li>\n<li>Only want to improve for bonuses.<\/li>\n<li>Lack communication skills (even after several reminders).<\/li>\n<li>Have to be reminded time after time how to do their job.<\/li>\n<li>Believe your training is more of a suggestion than process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Make sure you keep notes in your annual evaluations and if your staff member keeps making the same mistakes you know their time has come to an end.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is it more economical for you to retrain or fire a poor performing staff member?
